Carlos Nunez

 I had the unexpected opportunity to do a little volunteer work back in October. They payoff was so much greater that the commitment. In exchange for ushering at a music performance I was treated to world-class music in a beautiful setting. Carlos Nunez and his group filled Town Hall with the joyful sounds of Spanish-Celtic music, and their generosity of spirit and love of their art reminded me of how true artists move through the world. They spread light and love and joy almost effortlessly. Here was a troupe who travels the world and fills stadiums yet they were still excited to share the stage with local musicians including two very talented young people who are just beginning their journeys into performance. Not in a patronizing way, but with the same excitement of a child discovering a shiny new treasure. I wish that for every artist. Find your tribe, people who are excited by your talent, who are generous enough to celebrate what you bring to the table and who realize that when they allow you to shine that their own light burns brighter too. Making art is not a competition, it is a collective. Go forth and create.

I have a yarn problem. Maybe not a problem exactly, but slightly more than a habit and less than an addiction. You get the picture. My stash was growing faster than my ability to knit it up and I wanted to find a solution before it took over my studio. I decided to teach myself how to knit socks. UFOs - Unfinished Objects

I have a handful of these confounding pieces of work in progress; most artists and crafty folks do. Projects well started and then abandoned when time, materials or inspiration wanes before the piece is completed. I set them aside, fully intending to finish, but the stars align against us and they get put away somewhere until it they are forgotten, or worse left out where they taunts us. The UFO sits in a drawer or back cupboard until I stumble across it while looking for something entirely unrelated. There it is, held together with pins, and showing the promise of a completed work. I take a look with fresh eyes and, often after a quick redesign or trip to the craft store, I pick it up and finish. Only to start another.... The fabulous UFO was Designed by macrovector / Freepik.
