Socks and the Power of Persistence

I have a yarn problem. Maybe not a problem exactly, but slightly more than a habit and less than an addiction. You get the picture. My stash was growing faster than my ability to knit it up and I wanted to find a solution before it took over my studio. I decided to teach myself how to knit socks. A small, portable project that travels well, that only takes a skein or two and is simple enough to memorize the pattern. Sounds easy right? Yeah, not so much. I tried using four double-pointed needles, (one would slip out, or two would), magic-loop wasn’t and toe up, really? I knitted and unknitted quite a few partial socks.

Denise @ https://earthtonesgirl.com/ came to the rescue. She has a technique using two sets of circular needles that worked well for me. An amazing teacher with step-by-step videos, good close-up views of what she is demonstrating and great advice for a beginner. I was off and running. The first pair was a little rough, but still wearable. Half-a-dozen pairs later and I'm ready to try some variations on the pattern.

My takeaway is this: keep plugging at it. You may not succeed on the first try, or even the fifth, but at some point, if you stick with a skill, you will learn it. Keep angst out of the equation and keep plugging at it. Eventually, socks. Now pardon me, but I’m off to check out a new yarn store.
